Assistant Football Coach - Offensive Line

Summary:

The assistant coach will support the head coach in the coaching duties of the NCAA D-III Football program in accordance and compliance with NCAA, North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) and The College of Wooster policies and regulations. Additional responsibilities may be assigned in areas such as teaching, game management, committee work, and administration.

Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists in planning practices, training sessions, team and individual conditioning, line-ups and competitive strategies, this includes scouting reports, game film breakdown, etc.
  • Assists in developing a recruitment strategy for prospective student athletes, informing prospects of academic programs, talent evaluations, coordinating mailings, telephone calls, text messages, and email exchanges.
  • Collaborates with Admissions on recruitment goals and supports retention efforts through partnerships with Student Affairs, the Academic Resource Center, and other departments.
  • Assists in administrative operations including budget management, coordinating team travel, ordering equipment and supplies.
  • Supports the development of a strong alumni and parent support system.
  • Assists in developing a strong social media platform with Facebook, X, and Instagram.
  • Leads and assists with designated departmental, divisional, and/or College committees, initiatives and processes while making meaningful connections with students, staff and faculty by being visible on campus.
  • Engages team members in service activities both on campus and in the surrounding community.
  • All coaches may be assigned additional duties in the area of facility and game management and teaching and other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university.
  • One to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the sport, and sport specific certification, as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification is required (and can be completed after hire).
  • The ability to obtain College driver certification is desirable.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively and professionally with students, faculty and staff, and the public are required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Proficiency in writing reports and correspondence.
  • Capability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive matters confidentially.

Knowledge:
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Basic Outlook/Word/Excel and ability to learn and operate recruiting software (FrontRush, Synergy).

Work Environment:
  • Assistant Coaches are required to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays.
  • Some heavy lifting / moving equipment is required.
  • Travel for athletic contests, recruiting, coaches meetings and convention/caucus attendance is required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the Assistant Coach regularly travels in outside weather conditions and is exposed to wet or humid conditions, extreme temperatures, dirt, and dust.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Physical Demands:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; reach, use objects, tools, or controls with hands or arms; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The individual must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
